There were two starfishes on the
sand—one with five arms, the other with only four, one arm broken and
missing. Beside it was the caption: “Broken crayons still color,”
telling every viewer that no matter what your struggles are in life, you
still have your worth.
The photographer was Bea Alonzo, the
actor we knew as Basha in One More Chance, or Andeng in A Love to Last.
But Bea is neither Basha nor Andeng but Bea, the young woman who loves
to travel and capture memories along the way.
“I got interested in photography ever
since I started traveling. It was a long time ago. I think it was
through Instagram that people first heard about my interest and also
when I started sharing my photos. It’s not like I’m a professional
photographer. It’s just my hobby,” says Bea.
On her spare time, she would browse
photos on Instagram, especially by her photographer friends BJ Pascual
and Mark Nicdao, as well as Mario Testino, all three of whom somehow
served as her inspirations in photography.
“I don’t have a particular subject that I
always take a photo of. It can be a person. It can be a place or food,
anything I find interesting. I don’t like following rules when it comes
to photography.
Some people say that sometimes my lighting is wrong. I
like taking photos of people and there are times it is a bit washed out
and you’ll only see a silhouette. People would comment that it’s not
right but I like it and I find it interesting. My photography is more
for myself and less for other people, and as long as it makes me happy,”
she says.
“Before, in order to have a good photo,
you had to bring a DSLR with you with a couple of extra lens, just so
you could get the perfect shot. Now there are cameras that are developed
to make things easier for you. I like that this camera has an instant
filter where photos appear dreamy and you don’t need to worry about the
quality,” she says.
