The 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup ended abruptly for TnT KaTropa, losing
115-105 to the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings. TnT head coach Nash Racela
praised his opponents for their aggressiveness to get to the foul line.
“I just want to congratulate Ginebra for being the more aggressive
team tonight because they got a lot of free throws again,” said Racela.
“They were more aggressive than us despite taking 15 less 2-point field
goals. I’m sure that is what Coach Tim will say.”
He also added, teams who get to the free throw stripe will most
probably win games and it will also be pivotal in the PBA finals rematch
between Ginebra and Meralco.
“Now, going to the finals, I hope both teams should be aggressive. That will dictate who will get more free throws.”
Now, Racela plans to train his players to be more aggressive. He
believes that training his players to be more aggressive and getting to
the foul line will give his team better chances of closing out games.
“I think we need to have more players who are more aggressive. Maybe
that will help us. If we are more aggressive, maybe referees will call
more fouls. That is the only thing I can think of right now,” said the
TnT mentor.
“If you study the whole series, it all boils down on who gets more
free throws and who gets fouled a lot. That is something we have to
study. Maybe we could improve on that aspect,” he added.
Despite the loss, Racela is happy with the team’s overall
performance. He, however, points out that to win a championship, they
have to pass through San Miguel Corporation owned (SMC) teams.
“I am happy that for three conferences, we were able to advance in
the playoffs – twice in the semis, once in the finals. It just so
happened that in all three conferences, we played a San Miguel team and
you know how tough it is to play a San Miguel team. It is really hard
but if you want to win a championship, you really have to get past a San
Miguel team,” said Racela.
Losing to a crowd-favorite team, Racela sees that most fans are happy to see their team’s demise.
“Today, I’m sure a lot of people are happy with our loss,” Racela ended.
